![]() When shopping for a ski like the Riveter, one could consider the Salomon QST Lux (a little wider underfoot) or the Line Pandora 84, which would offer a similarly lightweight but stable feel. In addition to getting a great pair of skis that I thoroughly enjoy, I experienced excellent customer service during the purchasing process. The three-year warranty Icelantic offers is a great bonus as well. The Icelantic Riveter 85 is worth the money, particularly when considering the brand's care and attention in crafting skis. I was super pleased with my purchase and really got to know the skis. The Riveters were a blast to ski in the bumps and trees and charge a few steeper runs. After a dicey early season, I caught a couple of perfect days at Stowe with decent conditions and low crows. I had an awesome time getting out on these for the first time around Christmas. This is really the only con I can find with these skis. I like the matte finish, and the design of the topsheet is gorgeous however, the Carbonium on my Riveters has been prone to picking up nicks and dings, especially along the edges. Other: The topsheet on these skis is a Carbonium material and not a glossy finish. At speed and in super icy/poor conditions on the East Coast, I do experience a little chatter and feel a little washout in some of my turns. Stability: The Riveter is not the dampest of skis, but I don’t think it’s designed to be.The Riveters are easy to maneuver and easy to transport. Weight: Super lightweight construction.I find the Riveters to be fairly durable. Durability: Icelantic offers a three-year warranty which is awesome.I particularly enjoyed chasing my kids through the trees in Vail on these. The Riveter has a nice tapered shape and 5mm of camber underfoot, so it can move easily from different conditions/terrain. I enjoy tree skiing with these more than I have in the past on some heavier and more reinforced setups. Trees: These are quick and maneuverable skis.If one is consistently skiing in deeper conditions, it would probably be better to take it up to the Riveter 95 for consistent float. Powder: The Riveter 85 gives me some nice float on boot top powder out West.Once I realized how to manage the gas pedal on these, I was easily taking off from top to bottom. Groomers: The Icelantic Riveter 85 is an awesome ski for groomers. ![]() I do experience some chatter in turns in icier conditions. Turns: Easy turn initiation and maneuverability certainly improve with a little speed. That said, I can grab a decent edge despite this ski's lightweight build and flexibility. Edge hold: This is a very capable frontside ski but is definitely made by a company that focuses on powder skis and rides differently than the Black Pearl or Mavens that I’ve used recently.I have to let the Riveter go early on to pick up the speed, but the upside is I never feel like I’m barreling in too hard. It does take some getting used to compared to my daily driver, Black Pearl 88s. Speed: The Riveter is super light and can pick up a lot of speed.Given that I do 85% of my skiing on the East Coast and am relatively small and light, I didn’t feel the need to be much wider than 85 underfoot for a frontside ski. I was checking out the Salomon QST Lux 92 as well, but ultimately went with the Riveter because it seemed more in tune with what I was looking for and because I liked the looks of it as well. I appreciate the opportunity to purchase from a company that is committed to carbon neutrality. ![]() I’m a fan of the Icelantic brand, and it was nice to find a high-quality and high-performing ski made in the U.S. As with all Icelantic’s skis, the topsheet design is beautiful, too. The Riveter 85 was a great choice for me because it has a more directional aesthetic than some of Icelantic skis of the past, and an 85 underfoot would be able to handle East Coast hardpack and ice. I wanted something that could handle the ice coast but travel with me to Colorado and give some decent float and play in powder. I’m primarily an East Coast skier and usually end up with a burlier and more reinforced ski to handle variable conditions. I was looking for a lighter and more playful addition to my quiver. ![]()
